Virginia Hardesty Landes

Virginia Hardesty Landes, age 92, of Osawatomie, Kansas, died September 7, 2010 at the
Life Care Center in Osawatomie.
Virginia was born May 21, 1918 at Kincaid, Kansas. She was a twin and the youngest of
six children born to Edward and Cecelia (Carroll) Hubbard.
She was married to Glenn “Dutch” Hardesty on March 7, 1940 at Fort Scott, Kansas.
They became the parents of three children. They moved to Osawatomie in 1942. Her
husband Glenn, her son Gary, and her daughter Gay preceded her in death.
Virginia was a nobility plate sales person, a seamstress and a homemaker.
Virginia had a love for music and dancing. She taught belly dance lessons out of her
home in her younger years. She was a 4-H Club Leader in the late ’40s and early ’50s.
She married Boyd Landes on June 6, 1997 at Olathe, Kansas. They met at a dance where
Boyd was playing in the band. They made their home in Osawatomie. They enjoyed
dancing and traveling together.
She was a member of the Osawatomie First United Methodist Church where she had
taught Sunday School.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Dutch who died October 2, 1990, her son
Gary who died as a baby in March of 1943, her daughter Gay who died January 17, 2008,
and five siblings.
She is survived by her husband Boyd of the home; her son Jerry Hardesty of West
Jordan, Utah; 2 step-children; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 4 stepgrandchildren;
9 step-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Eddy-Birchard
Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers
were Gary Williamson, Jerrod Hardesty, Mark Wright, Gary Landes, Mathew Landes,
and Randy Rhodes. Memorials are to the Alzheimer’s Association.
