Obituary for Donald McBroom
The son of Lourrine (Linden) and Homer McBroom,
Donald “Don” McBroom, 85, of Paola, Kansas, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 25, 2026. He was born on a Native American reservation in Pawnee, Oklahoma, and moved to Kansas at the age of 18. He made Paola his home for more than 40 years.
Don spent his life working as a skilled machinist, employed by companies including Koch Refrigeration, Midwest Metal Products, and SOR Inc. Known affectionately by his coworkers as “Chief,” he took great pride in both his Native American heritage and his work ethic.
A man of remarkable skill, Don could build or fix nearly anything. He found joy in making household repairs and working on cars—not only his own, but also those of his daughters’ friends as they were growing up. He believed deeply in hard work and often held two jobs to provide for his family.
Don was also known for his generosity and compassion. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, especially during the holidays. In his later years, he found his greatest joy in caring for his great-granddaughter, Myrical, who was truly the light of his life.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sherri; his daughter, Cindy Lou Ramirez; and his younger brother, Homer McBroom.
Don is survived by his sister, Jeannine Blackwell; his daughters, Tammy (John) Dodderidge and Shannon (Berry Davis) McBroom; his stepdaughter, Vera Higgenbotham; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
He will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family.
