Janice Elaine (Hay) Cherry, age 78, of Osawatomie, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Olathe Medical Center.
Janice was born on July 30, 1948, in Paola, Kansas, to Charlie Elden Hay and Myrtle Marie (Timblin) Hay. She was the second of three children. She grew up in Lane, Kansas, attended school in Parker, and graduated from Richmond High School.
Following high school, Janice worked at IGA and later at several sewing factories. On November 14, 1970, she was united in marriage to Gary Cherry. From this union, one son, Kevin Cherry, was born. The marriage later ended in divorce.
Above all else, Janice cherished her family. She loved spending time with those she loved and enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines, Elvis memorabilia, clowns and also travelling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Elden Hay and Myrtle Marie (Timblin) Hay, and her sister, Dolores Hay.
Janice is survived by her son, Kevin Cherry and wife Tammy of Whiting, Kansas; her brother, Dennis “Joe” Hay of Lane, Kansas; three grandchildren, Garnet Williams of Topeka, Kansas, Candy Bounds of Osawatomie, Kansas, and Marti Cherry of Kansas City, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren, Gabe Cherry, Aiden Cherry, James Duckworth, Gabriel Bounds, Brayden Bounds, Savana Bounds, and Isabel Cherry.
Janice will be remembered for her love of family, her kind heart, and the joy she found in the simple things she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Graveside service is planned 10 am Tuesday August 11, 2026 at Quaker Cemetery.
