Larry Kenneth Oldham, age 82, of Osawatomie, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 30, 2026, at Louisburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Louisburg, Kansas.
Larry was born July 17, 1944, in Drexel, Missouri, the youngest of three sons born to Kenneth "Bill" Elijah Oldham and Veda Dell (Goldner) Oldham.
He graduated from Drexel High School in 1962. Following graduation, Larry attended auctioneer school before beginning his working career in the sales department and as a truck driver for Bingo Dog Food in Louisburg. He later worked for Panhandle for approximately 10 years before transferring to Osawatomie State Hospital in 1971. He began his career there as an operator and eventually retired in 1995 as a grounds supervisor. Not one to sit still for long, Larry went on to work for the Kansas Department of Transportation as a road supervisor until his final retirement in 2006.
Larry and Kathleen Loree Stewart were married on February 26, 1971 at First Baptist Church of Osawatomie. To this union came three daughters; Mary, Jodie and Kristy.
Outside of work, Larry’s life revolved around the things he loved most: horses, farming, auctioneering, and his family. He had a special place in his heart for his pulling horses and especially enjoyed bringing his horses to town during the Christmas season to operate the Santa Claus Express. One of his greatest joys was taking his grandchildren along for the rides and making memories together. Larry could often be found working his pulling horses along the gravel roads in his neighborhood, generously giving rides to neighborhood children and sharing his love of horses with the next generation. He also enjoyed raising coon dogs and was always happiest when he was working with animals or spending time outdoors.
Family and community involvement were important parts of Larry’s life. His children were actively involved in 4-H, and he devoted many years to supporting youth and agriculture. He served on the State Fair Horse Pull Board, the Miami County Fair Board, and the MOKAN Pony Pull Board. Larry also spent many years auctioneering at the Miami County Fair livestock auction, where his love of auctioneering and the agricultural community came together.
While Larry enjoyed many things throughout his life, nothing meant more to him than his family, especially his grandchildren. He treasured the time spent with them and the memories they made together.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Veda Oldham, and his brother, Ralph Oldham.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie Oldham, of the home; his daughters, Mary Haley of Paola, Kansas, Jodie (Jason) Livengood of Paola, Kansas, and Kristy Oldham of Osawatomie, Kansas; five granddaughters, Kenna Haley, Katie Haley, Krista (Quinton Johnson) Haley, Holly Livengood, and Emma (Claire) Livengood; his brother, Robert Oldham of Drexel, Missouri; his sister-in-law, Mary Oldham; and many other family members and friends.
Larry will be remembered for his love of horses, his dedication to his work and community, his generosity toward others, and the countless memories he created with those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
