Mary Alice Macek

Mary Alice Macek, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 7, 2026, leaving behind a beautiful legacy of love, family, faith, and cherished memories. 

Mary Alice was born on January 24, 1948, the youngest of four children to Francis "Mac" and Alice McBride. She was blessed with three older brothers, Clem (Caroline), Leo (Stella), and Roger (Sylvia) McBride, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories. 

In 1968, Mary Alice married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Macek. Together, they built a loving family and a full life. They were blessed with three sons, Alan, Daniel “Dan” (Christle), and Robert “Bobby” (Karre), who brought great joy and pride to her life. 

In 1980, Mary Alice and her family made their home in Osawatomie, Kansas, where she became a cherished member of the community. During her working years, she was employed by King Radio in Paola, Bendix of Kansas City, Missouri, and ultimately retired from Miami County CO-OP. 

Mary Alice enjoyed music, dancing, reading, and socializing with friends and family. She was an avid college football fan, especially when it came to Notre Dame. She had a warm and welcoming spirit and enjoyed the company of others, whether gathered around the family table, visiting with friends, or sharing a conversation with a customer at the family business. 

Family was the center of Mary Alice’s world. She was deeply involved in everything her children and grandchildren were interested in and never missed an opportunity to support and encourage them. She treasured family gatherings and the simple happiness of having her loved ones together.

Mary Alice was a devoted grandmother to five grandchildren: Jake, Ryan, Cody, Thomas Oliver, and Samantha Macek. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Noah and Carter Macek. 

Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life, and she was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Osawatomie and loved singing in the choir. 

Mary Alice will be remembered not only for all that she did, but for the way she made people feel. She had a gift for being present—for showing up, taking an interest, listening to a story, sharing a laugh, and making the people around her feel important. Her greatest happiness came from being part of the lives of the people she loved. 

Her passing leaves a space that cannot be filled. But the love she gave her family is not gone. It lives on in her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, and in all those who were fortunate enough to know her. 

Mary Alice gave her family a lifetime of love. She gave them memories to hold onto, stories to tell, and an example of what it means to make family a priority. Her greatest legacy will always be the people she loved and the love they will carry forward. 

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew her.
