Wayne Eldon Long

Wayne Eldon Long, age 82, of Parker, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

Wayne was born on July 3, 1942, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Homer Leon and Margaret Ethel (Collins) Long. He was one of three children and grew up in Parker, where he graduated from Parker Rural High School with the class of 1960. Following his graduation, Wayne proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Ranger as a jet mechanic during the Vietnam War.

After his military service, Wayne returned to his hometown of Parker. Wayne worked for many years as an over-the-road truck driver starting out being self employed and then later worked for Debrick Truck Line, a career that suited his love for travel and the open road.

Wayne married Patsy McDowell in Olathe, KS. To this union came two children; Timothy and Tiffany. The marriage later ended in divorce.

On May 22, 1998, he married Janice Woolsey. Together, they built a life filled with love and community. Wayne was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and a dedicated member of the Gold Wings Road Riders Association, where he enjoyed the open road and the camaraderie of fellow riders.

Wayne was a 15 year cancer survivor.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Steven Long; and his sister, June Young.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice, of the home; his children, Timothy (Stephanie) Long and Tiffany (Damien) Rasmussen; and his stepdaughters, Lori (Ken) Vetter, Lisa (Dave Hoskins) Houghton, and Lynn (Jeff Look) Hauschel. Wayne also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: Taylen Rasmussen, and twins Tyler and Carlton Long. He will be missed by many extended family members and dear friends.

Wayne has preferred cremation and services are not planned at this time. Memorial contributions are to Parker Community Historical Society and maybe sent c/o Eddy Birchard Funeral Home P.O. Box 430 Osawatomie, KS 66064.
